It's a favorite event for locals and visitors.Where to shop for food and wine: Oakville Grocery - great place to shop for gourmet goodies and dine at their sidewalk cafe. It's where I shop when we're heading to a winery for a picnic lunch. Don't miss our Hungarian shop called the Red Paprika. Sauces, seasonings, cookbooks and the world's best paprika. Photo below shows some of the treasures you'll find there. Yum!
Big John's Market - shop for picnic foods, gourmet goodies of all kinds, and wonderful produce. If you are staying in a private, fully-equipped vacation home why not "cook in" buy everything you need at Big Johns.
Farmer's Market - for fresh from the farm foods, shop at the Healdsburg Farmer's Market. I create my dinner menu around what I buy at "the market." Visitors and locals shop the market, so it's a great place to mix and mingle.
Local Wines - Healdsburg is nestled in the center of three world renowned grape growing appellations : Dry Creek, Russian River and Alexander Valley. Go to Wine Road to plan your visits to our local wineries. Request a free wine road map. This is the best map to use as your guide to local wineries.
My "secret" best picnic table in the wine country: Recently, far-away friends were visiting and we picniced at the most beautiful outdoor table I've ever seen. Find it at Arista Winery on Westside Road in Dry Creek Valley (it's listed on the Wine Road Map) Buy a bottle or two of Arista wine to enjoy with your food. Then, ask the tasting room staff to point you to the private table by the water and the rock formations. Then, get ready to say "wow." Tip: the moment you arrive, locate the "best table" and have a friend stay there and "save the table" while you are buying wines to go with lunch.
